So I finally got my taxes done and decided to reward, uhhhmm... the family, with a spankin' brand new playstation 3. Needless to say, we didn't owe the government anything so it was totally justified (in my mind).
As far as "why the PS3" as opposed to Xbox360 or Wii, the simple fact is I have a small-but-significant PS2 library and I can still play those games. It also doubles as a Blu-Ray drive for HD movies, as it's connected to our projector and ridiculously large screen, to complete our "home theatre" setup.
My initial impression is it's pretty damn cool. The interface is simple to navigate, it has an integrated web browser, and the online functionality is good enough for me. I did have an "issue" with the sound, however, but fixed it by manually changing the audio settings.
All in all, it was a good buy -- but I have to say that 'cause I already dropped the cash on it!

Dude! You should have waited, prices on the PS3 will be dropping by $100 in a few weeks.
